February Empties | 2016

Hey everyone! It's that time again! You will get a closer look at all the products that I have used up this month and you will also get a mini-review of each product to see whether or not I feel as if it is a product worth purchasing!

Hair
L'Oreal Kids Tangle Tamer for Wet & Dry Hair - I have repurchased this in the past and now, I feel that I am over this product. It isn't delivering the same results that it used to and it is an unnecessary step in my hair care routine. Also, I barely smell the sweet pear scent that it claims to deliver.

Selsun Blue Deep Cleansing Micro-Bead Scrub Anti-Dandruff Shampoo - There is 3% Salicylic Acid in here and I like to leave it on my scalp for at least 5 minutes. I feel that it really deep cleans my scalp and it does the job. I have an oily yet dry scalp which can be hard to manage. I love this brand but this isn't my favourite product within the line. Both my brother and I use this brand regularly.

Teeth
Colgate Total Whitening Toothpaste Gel - This is a standard product and very basic. It does the job and isn't anything special. I would categorize it in my "plains."

Sunstar G.U.M. Advanced Care Flossers - These are great to use and very inexpensive. They do not break when you are using them and are quite durable. I bought mine at Wal-Mart for a few dollars and will repurchase!

Face
Pond's Exfoliating Renewal Wet Cleansing Towelettes - For years, Pond's has been my favourite brand of cleansing cloths to use on my face. They can get expensive and for that reason, I have used other brands. This package includes 30 towelettes and has both citrus & cucumber scents. I feel that these do not dry out as fast as some of the other makeup wipes that I have used in the past and that it really takes off the majority of my makeup. They are sturdy and do not break while I use them and I only need to use one to get off my full face of makeup.

Bioré Deep Cleansing Pore Strips - You already know that I am a huge fan of using Biore strips. When I seen this box in the store, I was a bit hesitant because you are getting less strips for the same amount of money. Let me tell you right now that these get EVERYTHING OFF. They are well worth the money and these are slowly becoming my favourite product in the line.

OXY Emergency Acne Vanishing Spot Gel - I was one of the winners in a OXY contest and this was one the the items that they sent me in the prize pack. I felt that it was mediocre. I didn't have high hopes to begin with and even though it DID do a good job at drying out the pimple(s), it also did dry out my skin. In the winter time, my skin is already dry enough to begin with and to get even more dry is a pain to deal with. This will not be a staple in my skin care routine unfortunately.

Body
Gilette Venus Shaving Gel in Luscious Lilies - I really enjoy most of the shaving gels and creams in this line. I enjoyed the scent and will continue to repurchase from Gillette as it is my go-to!

Bath & Body Works Sonoma Weekend Escape 24 Hour Moisture Ultra Shea Body Cream - This is one of my favourite scents from Bath & Body Works and there are notes of: pear nectar, Sonoma peach and sun drenched oak! This is really a great line and I purchased it for my friends as well as my family! It is a light scent and the formula is very hydrating. I mentioned it in my latest Youtube video.

Hands
Bath & Body Works Gentle Foaming Hand Soap in Oh Snap! Jolly Gingerbread - This was a great festive soap to use around the holidays. The packaging looks great in the bathroom and is very fun!

Vitamins
Nature's Bounty Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies with Biotin - I have a few blog posts talking about this particular product because I just can't seem to get enough of it! They do wonders for my hair, skin and nails! I can't be without them and I have a few back-ups.

Nature's Bounty Echinacea 1000 mg - I bought this when I was sick last month for awhile and it helped my cold from getting worse. My friend and also my doctor recommended it to me.

Miscellaneous
BIC Soleil Bella Razors - I enjoyed using these razors and they have flexible blades! I usually use just the BIC Soleil razors that are not the Bella. They are very inexpensive and I bought mine at Wal-Mart. BIC Soleil in general is my go-to brand for razors and I will buy the Bella again in the near future!

100% Pure Cotton Rounds - There are 100 cotton rounds in the package and I always feel as though I go through them quickly. I love them and I buy them at Wal-Mart. These are a staple for me!

L'Oreal Paris Color Riche Nail Polish in 601 French Riviera - I love this colour but there is not a lot of product inside! The bottle is small and I need at least 2-3 coats when using this shade. Needless to say the bottle goes very quickly. I am not sure if this was limited edition or not.

Samples
Atelier Cologne in Mandarine Glaciale - It is a unisex scent but I feel as though it is very masculine smelling. It was nice to try but as most people know, each scent will smell different on every person depending on their body chemistry. This wasn't my favourite on me but I still used up both samples that Sephora sent me.

Northern Delights Inuit Herbal Tea in Labrador Tea & Arctic Blend - I was actually sent out these two teas by the company but they did not ask me to review them. I wanted to give these a shout out because they have delicious blends and am interested in trying out more flavours! They smell delicious when in the tea bag and are even more delicious to drink. I was very impressed overall and they are a Canadian company.

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.

The New Generation of Primers

Hey everyone! I feel like non-makeup items that can be found in your local drugstore are going to be big trends for 2016! I'm sure you have already heard about the Nivea After Shave Balm that many beauty bloggers and vloggers have been using on the regular. I can also try that one out if you would like but please let me know!

I decided to pick up the Phillips brand of Milk of Magnesia because I read that is also beneficial for helping to clear acne and is great at helping manage oily skin (I have both.) You can also use it is a cleanser! Of course, this can dry out your skin so always make sure to moisturize!

Yes, it is a laxative but many makeup artists swear by this product. I tried looking for a smaller bottle but this was unfortunately the smallest size. Also, it seems to be quite popular because there was only 1 more left on the shelves! It retails for around $7-$9 for 350 mL depending on where you purchase your bottle at. My bottle is in the fresh mint flavour but there is also a cherry flavoured one too.

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.

#KISSANDMAKEUP

Hey everyone! I recently came across a very powerful message from Tarte and wanted to share it with you!

* Over 3.2 million students fall victim to bullying annually
* 88% of teenagers witness cyber-bullying each day and almost half of them have experienced it
* 90% of kids in grades 4 through 8 have been bullied
* Why these precious children were bullied you may ask? Race, shape, body and looks were all key factors.

What can we do about it you may ask? Well for starters, they want as many people as possible to help raise awareness by kissing your hand, covering your lips and then take a selfie. They are asking to help share it on Instagram using the hashtag: #KISSANDMAKEUP

Tag one of your friends in your caption and send them a positive message!

Last but not least, tag @tartecosmetics & @bystanderrevolution so that they can share your awesome and empowering photo!

I encourage all my readers to do the same! Bullying is not something to be taken lightly and more needs to be done about this serious issue in my opinion!

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.

The 30-Day Hair, Skin & Nails Challenge

Hey everyone! As you know, I am a huge supporter of Nature's Bounty products (as you can tell by the photo,) and you have probably seen them featured in many of my blog posts. They can be seen mentioned in my monthly empties, my current vanity set-up and also, I dedicated a whole post to them a little while ago that you should definitely check out! I came across this magazine spread in in March issue of Chatelaine and immediately became intrigued by The 30-Day Challenge!

The challenge is that Nature's Bounty is giving you 30 days to feel more beautiful from both the inside as well as the outside. All you need to do is take two gummies every single day to get your day started right! The strawberry flavour tastes delicious and they are very easy to consume daily. I usually purchase my bottle of Nature's Bounty Hair, Skin & Nails (which contains 80 gummies,) at Wal-Mart. They recently came out with a Value Size that contains 165 gummies which is a little bit more than double the smaller sized bottle! I absolutely love the look of their packaging and that is why I display it proudly on my vanity. These bottles do not belong in the cupboards by any means!

I have been using this product constantly for over a year now and I can honestly say that they have been working for me! My nails are a lot stronger than what they used to be and they look healthy! My nails do grow quite quickly and can get rather long! I have actually been asked by strangers about my nails many times and I always recommend them to this particular product because it has worked wonders for me! As far as my hair goes, it is a lot shinier and it grows more quickly with the help of these fabulous vitamins! And for my my skin, I can proudly walk out of my house without makeup because I know that it will be looking its best!

I would also urge you to try The 30-Day Challenge if you are up for it! These gummies provide an excellent source of Vitamin C, E and Biotin! Of course it would be wise to consult with a doctor prior to using these vitamins if you have any concerns.

They are also offering a coupon for $5 off your next purchase!

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.

Current Vanity Set-Up

Hey everyone! I wanted to show you the way that I have my vanity set-up as of right now. I'm sure that it will change in the future, but here is a look at what is working for me right now!

I like to have everything in my sight so that I am not forgetting about using any particular item(s). I put makeup products in clear containers and jars for easy access. I separate my brushes in 3 different holders: every day brushes, eye brushes and face brushes. My lip liners, eye lines and lip crayons are in one jar. All my eyebrow products are in The Day of the Dead cup holder and my most frequently used lip products are in the matching glass. I have an octagonal clear case with gold accents that holds my most of my every day makeup that I purchased at Michaels.

I stack my palettes for now, but I want to organize them better and am not sure how-to right now. I have both my Muji Drawers that house all my makeup. For more information about them, check out my previous post. I keep my vitamins and my lotions on my vanity because I do reach for them frequently!

My desk is from Ikea and it is the Linnmon/Adils Table in White/Black. I do wish that I bought a piece of glass to put on top of my desk because there are some dents and chips in it already that could have been avoided.

Happy Family Day/President's Day!

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.

Last Night's OOTN + Delicious Burger

Hey everyone! Last night was more low-key but still wanted to share this amazing burger that I ate! The place is called Woody's Burger Bar and Grill which is located in Etobicoke. I have to say that I wasn't impressed at all with the service, but the burger definitely made-up for it. You can order a different variety of select beers, get a shake, indulge in a reasonably priced poutine or even get 50/50 fries/sweet potato fries. It is small inside as there is limited seating but there are washroom located at the back of the restaurant. If I do decide to come back here, I will certainly get my burger to-go.

I ordered the California Burger ($7.95 CAD + tax) which had: guacamole, fresh salsa, fried onions, lettuce and pesto mayo. I added jalepenos, roasted red peppers, salt and ketchup. It was very well cooked and the bun didn't fall apart or get too soggy while I took my time to eat my burger. My one friend ordered the Salted Caramel Shake which only tasted and smelled like vanilla when she first ordered it. They added in a little bit more of the salted caramel to it which barely made a difference to be honest. My other friend ordered the fries and they were pretty good. I believe they had sea salt on them. The coleslaw was pretty standard, nothing out of the ordinary.

Glasses from Clearly.ca

Hey everyone! I have been wearing glasses from Clearly.ca for many years now. I have had nothing but positive experiences from them and I wanted to share my knowledge with all my readers. They are an online store but they do have a store in Toronto on Queen St which I have yet to go to! Their frames are extremely affordable and they offer a large selection of options to choose from! I appreciate the convenience of this service and how easy it is to place an order online. You just need your prescription to plug in all the numbers and they make it easy to fill it out. You copy what your optometrist wrote down and carry it over the online form.

I like to get my eyes examined when my prescription is expired because I want to make sure I am purchasing the correct lenses and my eyes are not being strained. That happened to me years ago and I had frequent headaches. You also measure the distance between your eyes and they provide you with instructions to do that which is very straight forward. In total, I have ordered 3 pairs of glasses from them. The first pair is very used and worn therefore, I will not be showing that pair.

1. Kam Dhillon 3062 Teresa Havana (Top)

I want to apologize because I can't locate these on the web site, but I included the exact style number in case they reappear on the web site at a later date. You can match the ones that I got to ones you may like better on the web site. I did order them last year.

I just want to mention that I had to get these glasses tightened, altered and loosened 3 different times. The first time I wore them out, I was pumping gas and they almost fell right off my face. Needless to say, I went straight to the mall to get them tightened. The second time I had to go back because they were way too tight and gave me indentations. Finally, I got them slightly loosened and I guess the third time was a charm after all! You may have to do the same when you purchase a pair of glasses so be forewarned!

2. Field & Stream 011 Teton Brown (Bottom)

These are my newest addition and I simply ADORE them! I knew right away when I put them on that they were what I had been looking for because I have a thing for large, oversized glasses. They remind me of a pair of glasses that a grandfather may wear or if I want to channel my inner Steve Urkel! I also want to point out that yes, they are indeed men's glasses. However, I didn't let that deter me from purchasing them because I could not find a pair of women's frames that I liked nearly as much as these ones here. They are slightly aviator shaped which I knew that I wanted from the beginning of my search for these style of frames. I originally wanted the gold frames in the same style, but they were roughly $60 more than these and they weren't on sale. I figured that I have dark brown hair and these are brown frames that I can still pull them off.

When I first opened the box, I realized that they were more copper in colour but ever so slightly which made me like them even more! I am not sure if I will have to get these altered yet because I have only worn them lightly for a short time. As you can tell from the picture, it does come with a protective glasses case, a lens wipe and an adjustment tool.

The best part about them is that I only paid $19.00 CAD for them! I received free shipping which was rather fast in my opinion and you can claim them on your income tax because they email you the form to do so! I didn't upgrade to the extras that I did with my Kam Dhillon frames which include: an anti-reflective coating, a UV protective coating and a scratch resistant coating.

What is awesome is that their web site has a try-on view so that you can see how a particular pair of frames look on another person. If that isn't your thing, you can upload a picture of yourself (following the guidelines,) and see how it would look on you! With some frames, you have the option of getting transition lenses or even sunglasses! If you wear glasses while on the computer, phone, tablet or even watching television, they have an option to get digital protection lenses to help reduce that blue light coming your way.

I also know several people who have purchased from Clearly.ca and they love their glasses just as much as I do!

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.

Hope's Haul

Hey everyone! I recently placed a rather large order from Hope's when they had their 75% off sale and wanted to share all the pieces that I got with you. I want to also break them down for you. To help you out with the sizing, everything I ordered (except for the scarf,) was a size small except for the green skirt with the safety pins and the brown dress which were in size XS.

Gold Sequined Pants - Lined inside, pants are not itchy at all because of this, there is a zipper at the back, very comfortable to wear and it fits very well overall. Perfect for New Years or a special event.

Jean Bermuda Shorts - Very comfortable to wear, a different length then what I'm used to but I can see myself getting a lot of wear out of these. They are casual yet great for running errands in. You can wear a heel with them and instantly have long, beautiful legs!

White Jean Shorts - These ran a bit big on me but I love the pocket detailing! I have been in need of a new pair of white shorts for quite some time now!

Black High-Waisted Shorts - These ran snug for me and the length is a little short for my liking. However, I will just have to wear a long top and tuck in the front or wear a long cardigan!

Infinity Scarf - I did not know upon ordering the scarf that it had a floral lace design. That's not really my style and will stick to the other side of the scarf when wearing it out.

Brown Dress - I really like this when you want to throw on something quick and it is very lightweight to wear! It isn't too short at all and is very comfortable.

White Crop Top - This ran large on me I can still wear it, but the straps will fall down from time to time. I absolutely love the detailing on it and it a very feminine top.

Black Distressed Tank - This tank is definitely my style! I would rock it with a pair of jean shorts or even over a bathing suit!

Colorful Pencil Skirt - I think this is a very unique skirt and can't wait to wear it! It ran slightly large on me but I can always shrink it in the wash. It did come with a matching top but I didn't like the cut of it or the placement of the colours so I didn't purchase it.

Olive Green Skirt - This is a very well-made skirt. There is a zipper closure at the back, it is lined and fits well! It is not too short and I love the gold accents aka the safety pins!

2 Piece Outfit - This is a perfect summer outfit! A lot of contrasting elements here but I adore it! The only con is that some of the gems are coming loose already and I only tried on the outfit once for the haul!

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.

Winterlicious Friday

Hey everyone! I went to another great restaurant last night for Winterlicious 2016 and wanted to share with my readers what my party had to eat! We decided to venture out to Lee which is located on King Street W. and serves more of an asian fusion style of food. The menu was $45 plus taxes and gratuity.

It was suggested that we order off the fixed price menu (the Winterlicious menu,) and then we order items off the regular menu to share with the entire party. We decided against this in the end, but it is a great suggestion! Above are the appetizers that we ordered which were all delicious and had great flavour profiles. On the left is the Roasted Jerusalem Artichoke & Spiced Hazelnuts, in the middle is the Hong Kong Soya Chicken & Spiced Popcorn and to the right is the Millefeuille of Leek, Wild Cod & Methi.

Our entrees came after and they were everything I expected them to be! To the left is Lee's Slow Braised Beef which was so tender that you didn't even need a knife to cut into it because it fell apart! It melted in your mouth and was garnished beautifully! In the middle is the Mala Szechuan Multi-Grain Crusted Salmon and on the right is the dessert trio. It consists of Spring Roll Creme Brûlée, Hot Apple Strudel (which I found to be rather dry but still loaded with flavour, and Pani Puri.

Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette Review

Hey everyone! Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette VS. The Anastasia Contour Kit

Before making the decision to get this palette, I was debating between this one and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit. I decided to go with the Kat Von D palette because: the pans are larger, less people broke out from using this contour kit, there were more reviews on the Sephora web site and they were higher ranked for the Kat Von D Contour Palette. The only thing I wished that this palette offered is that you can pop out the pan once it is finished and buy a replacement to insert into that same palette. The Anastasia Contour Kit offers this and it is really convenient to replace one of your most used colours instead of repurchasing the entire palette again. Also, there is only a $3 CAD difference between the two palettes which isn't much at all.

Packaging
There is a nice sized mirror that comes with the palette which I unfortunately probably won't use much. I like the names she came up for the shades were are unique and memorable. The one thing I don't like is the black packaging for the sole reason that it will leave fingerprints all over the entire palette from touching my makeup with my hands. Despite that, the palette feels sturdy enough to travel with and closes firmly.

The Shades
I felt as though these shades were: smooth, creamy, soft, blendable, easy to work with, pigmented and buildable. I am impressed and I think that Lyric is my favourite highlight shade because of my yellow undertone. When I get more of a tan, I can easily use the next darkest shade to contour with which is appreciated because what girl doesn't like a selection of colours to choose from?

Overall
This is a very well thought-out palette that is worth the money you spend on it. I will definitely be getting much use out of it and will easily be able to pack it when I end up traveling next!

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.

Z Palette Comparison

Hey everyone!

Sephora
I love my Z Palettes and in case any of you were wondering, I recently bought the Baby size off the Sephora web site for $12 CAD. (The size I purchased at that price is not longer listed online, sorry!) It does come with magnets and a little "key" that can help you depot your eyeshadows or blushes. I personally don't use the "key" as I have my own method. There is a blog post of mine that you can check out that shows you step-by-step, how to depot your makeup. As you can tell by the picture, I fit 8 MAC eyeshadows in the Baby Palette and can only fit a couple more. There is a Double Sided Z Palette available online for $56 CAD but it is currently sold out. If my memory serves me right, I believe there was a third size offered on the Sephora web site that is no longer listed.

Z Palette
On the actual Z Palette web site, I usually buy the Large sized palettes when they are on promotion. Normally, they generally retail for $20 USD and they also come with the magnets. They do come out with limited edition packaging every so often and I love most of the fun designs! The shipping is what always gets me because it can be expensive, and that's why I chose to buy at Sephora the last time I needed one. I can fit a lot more shadows in the large size Z Palette and they are my favourite.

Overall
I would only buy the Sephora Baby size again if I want to take a compact palette with me when I travel, a palette that would fit in my purse or if I only had a few items to depot that I wanted in a smaller palette. As I get more MAC eyeshadow, I am going to have to upgrade to a larger palette. I will wait for the Z Palette web site to have a promotion on their Large Palettes again and I will stock up!

The Difference Between The Sizes (Z Palette Site):
The Mini Z Palette can be a great gift for someone if you are buying them 3 standard-sized round pans and need somewhere to house them in. That is how many the Mini size holds and it is such a space saver!

The Small Palette is not as wide as the Baby Palette on the Sephora web site and it can fit up to 9 standard-sized round pans.

The Medium Palette is great for when you don't want something too small but do not want to commit to the Large Palette quite yet. They made this size "extra-deep" like the Dome Palette to fit baked eyeshadows, mineralized blushes and brushes too.

The Large Palette "fits up to 28 standard-sized round pans." This is my favourite size and it doesn't take up too much room on a vanity.

The Extra Large Palette is great if you do work on set, if you are an MUA or just simply want multiple shades housed in one palette. It can "fit up to 35 standard-sized round pans."

The Dome Palette is great for eyeshadows that aren't as flat and have more height to them such as mineralized shadows, baked blushes and even brushes.

The Double-Sided Z Palette is great for organizing your makeup. You can potentially have one side with all eyeshadows and another side with all blushes. The best part is that both sides are clear so that you can easily see which items you have in there!

I hope this helps somebody out because I was unsure which size to order when I was browsing online and I am just making the smaller palettes work for now.

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.
