Why You Should Apply Sunscreen On Your Face

Hey everyone! I'll be honest with you: I wasn't wearing sunscreen on my face regularly in the past and I definitely wasn't aware of the risks that come with not wearing a good sunscreen. I had no idea what the importance of wearing it daily was and I thought that having a face cream with an SPF of 15 was good enough. Even some makeup products have a low SPF such as BB Creams and CC Creams that I thought were sufficient. I want to let you some important information that I wish I had known about years ago!

Not only does sunscreen protect your face from getting burned and from getting wrinkles, it also lowers your risk from getting skin cancer. It helps block out those harmful UV rays and helps protect your face. There is a common misconception that sunscreen can clog your pores, leave white residue behind and break you out. I have even had some people tell me that they hate the smell of it. That can be true when using some sunscreens, but you need to find a sunscreen that works best for you. There are different claims and ingredients on the different bottles. I suggest your start researching and doing your homework to find one that oil-free as well as water-based.

I recently visited my Dermatologist's office and she told me that I need to start using an actual sunscreen with at least an SPF of 60 on my face from now on. I did listen to her and I purchased Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen SPF 60. I have heard this is going to be discontinued or that it already is, but I'm not sure. All I know is that I really enjoy using it and I mix it in with my moisturizer in the morning before I apply any makeup to my face. It absorbs quickly, it doesn't leave a white residue, doesn't have that typical sunscreen smell that people dislike, it feels lightweight on the skin and it is affordable.

Also keep in mind that you can still tan even though it is cloudy outside because after all, the sun peaks through the clouds and the winter time is no exception to skip using your sunscreen! Make sure to protect your face regularly and pick-up a sunscreen today if you aren't already using one!

Current Favourite Facial Moisturizers

Hey everyone! I love a great facial moisturizer and I have been testing a lot out for you lately! I wanted to share with you a couple of my favourites.

Tarte Rainforest of The Sea Drink of H20 Hydrating Boost Moisturizer - I recently featured this in my January Empties and I was sad to use it up. This is a great gel moisturizer with a light scent. This is not greasy at all and I used it before applying my makeup.

Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream - This I would recommend using at night because it is a cream or I have been using it in the morning during Winter because my skin needs the extra moisture. I love the rose scent because it smells like fresh roses from a garden!

The Body Shop's Wonderblur Product Review

Hey everyone! I placed a rather large order from The Body Shop a few weeks ago when they were having their Cyber Monday Sale and almost everything on their web site was 50% off. I recently posted my Collective Haul Video where I showed this beauty product.

Drops of Youth Line & Price Point
Wonderblur is a face primer from their Drops of Youth line. I have tried the Bouncy Sleeping Mask, their Youth Cream and the Youth Concentrate Serum in the past. I did enjoy using all three of the products but I specifically bought the Wonderblur for $12.50 CAD on sale because it was half price.

Product Claims
- A lightweight formula
- Instantly smoothes skin texture
- Visibly reducing fine lines and pores
- Leaving an even, flawless finish
- 12-hour hydration

Size & How To Use
You are getting 30 ml or 1.0 fl oz of product inside a squeezable tube and that was the only size that I could find on their web site. You want to apply the Wonderblur face primer after your moisturizer and before you apply your makeup to either your target areas or all over your face. You want to use a little bit and not too much because if you use too much, your makeup won't glide on as smoothly.

Texture & Consistency
It is definitely more thick than other face primers that I have used in the past. You may have to take some time and not rush to apply this primer to your face. Just because it may look thick coming out of the tube, keep in mind that it is not heavy after all, this is marketed as a lightweight primer.

Wonderblur vs. Benefit's Porefessional
You are getting 0.75 fl oz or 21 g of product from the Porefessional and it retails for $39 CAD.  You are actually getting more from the Wonderblur as it contains 1.0 fl oz and I purchased mine for $12.50 CAD. Benefit's face primer glides right on my face and the formula is oil-free, silky as well as lightweight. It contains vitamin E which helps protect the skin from free radicals. The Wonderblur face primer is formulated with Edelweiss stem cells and is enriched with Community Trade Babassu Oil. It is a more thick formula and is a totally different consistency than Benefit's Porefessional.

Overall Thoughts
I have very oily skin in general and no product will help get rid of my oils, but this did help me not get as greasy as quickly as I normally do. It blends into the skin effortlessly and my my skin feel very soft when it was completely rubbed in. As previously mentioned, the Wonderblur was a fraction of the cost of my Porefessional from Benefit. This is a greater cheaper alternative but I still do love the Porefessional!

A Potential Dupe for the Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx Peeling Gel

Hey everyone! Here is my breakdown on the information that I found online about the ELF Gentle Peeling Exfoliant vs Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx Peeling Gel (that I actually own.)

  • $60 CAD (based on the full size version of 100 ml)
  • 100 ml (3.4 fl oz) (full size)
  • Can purchase it at Sephora
  • For all skin types
  • Peeling Gel
  • Advised to use 1-3 times a week depending on how sensitive your skin is
  • $10 USD
  • 100 ml (3.4 fl oz)
  • Can purchase it on their web site
  • Doesn’t specify on which skin types that this can be used on
  • Doesn’t specify what the consistency is. It just says that it is an exfoliating cleanser.
  • Advised to use 2-3 times a week

Similarities:
It is recommended that you use both products on a dry face and you are to massage both in a circular motion. Both products are formulated without: Parabens, Sulfates or Phthalates. In terms of ingredients, both of these contain: Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Carbomer and Phenoxyethanol.

They have Cellulose and Glycol in both but I don’t know enough about them to speak on them but I believe there are different forms in each product. Each one has different fruit extracts in them. For example, PTR has Pineapple and Pomegranate Fruit Extract. There are multi-action enzymes and there is also keratinase inside. ELF has Papaya Leaf Extract as well as Tangerine Fruit Extract. It also claims in the description that there is Licorice Extract but I’m not sure which ingredient in the provided ingredient list that would be.

Differences:
PTR has Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Benzoate and Mica whereas the ELF one doesn’t have either. ELF has included Fragrance (Parfum) in their product without specifying which one specifically and PTR has not included any fragrance in their peeling gel. On the ELF web site, someone mentioned that the ingredient 'Microcrystalline Cellulose' is a biodegradable replacement for the polyethylene beads that were recently banned from: soaps, body washes, facial cleansers and toothpastes. These microbeads were proven to be harmful to our environment as well as our health. I remember reading an article about these microbeads being found in many aqua life forms and how toxic they really are.

Using The Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx Peeling Gel:

You will want to apply some product onto your dry face. I applied some onto my hand to show you.

You then will want to massage the product into your skin as mentioned above in circular motions. You will see the Peeling Gel ball up as it is exfoliating the skin and getting rid of the dead skin. You are left with a smooth layer of skin.

To Conclude:
The exfoliating cleanser by ELF just came out and I received an email about it yesterday. There is little information about this product online right now. Also, I do have a review & demo about an ELF product from this same line that you are welcome to check out.

I just want to mention that I do own the smaller size from Peter Thomas Roth (it came in the Skin Saver PTR Kit that was purchased on the web site,) but I do not yet own the Exfoliating Cleanser from ELF because it just recently came out.

My Current Go-To Sheet Masks | The Face Shop |

Hey everyone! I have been using sheet masks now for a few years and want to give you some information on them! They are very convenient and you can take them when you travel because they will fit into your carry-on or purse no problem! If you are feeling brave, you can even use them on the plane to add that moisture into your skin that the airplane depletes your skin of.

I have been particularly liking the sheet masks from The Face Shop recently because: they are affordable (the ones pictured above are only $2.00 CAD,) there are a wide variety to choose from, each one serves a purpose for the skin (i.e.. illuminating, moisturizing, etc...) and they are very easy to use as they even have directions on the back of the package.

I use these after I have washed my face. I usually use a nose strip, tone my face and then go in with one of these sheet masks from The Face Shop. You leave it on for 10-15 minutes and then you  discard the mask into the trash. You will notice that there is leftover 'essence' on your face. You do not want to wash that off your face, instead, you pat it into your face to let your skin absorb those beneficial ingredients. I then go in with an under eye cream and go to bed. I generally use a sheet mask once a week.

I have been really getting great results from using these sheet masks as they have definitely helped my skin look more refreshed and awake. They have even helped me deal with some of my pimples! I have been giving away these amazing sheet masks to my friends as gifts because they worked so well for me and want them to have this great experience too! Of course there are a wide variety of sheet masks from various brand names that serve different purposes, but these sheet masks from The Face Shop have been my favourite as of lately.

I have not yet used this 3-Step Programming Kit. Let me know if you have used it and what results you received! The packaging is rather large as you can see in the photo above when my hand is used to show how wide the packaging really is.

I featured this in my September Empties | 2016 blog post!

Until next time,

Lise Watier HydraForce Product Review

Hey everyone! Lise Watier recently came out with a new cream that is called Hydraforce and it is a Hydra-Protective Comforting Cream. It is very hydrating and is perfect for the unpredictable weather conditions that we as Canadians have to deal with. The featured ingredient is the Gaspe Algae Extract which helps acts as a barrier from harsh environments.

Packaging
I really liked the design that they came out with for this particular product. The lid is white and then there is blue ombre fading into white towards the top. There is some weight to this product but I wouldn’t necessarily consider it to be heavy. It is rather small and won’t take up much room on your vanity. It is such a beautiful jar that you will want to definitely display it for others to see!

Price
The cream is 45 ml or 1.5 FL OZ and I must say that a little bit does go a long way! It retails for $45 CAD on Lise Watier web site

Pros
There is a very light scent that is pleasant and not overwhelming. It is very lightweight and it left my skin remarkably softer. It really did help my makeup glide on that much smoother. I find that it really does protect my skin in the cold Canadian weather which is a major key that I look for in all my moisturizers.

The App

They also came out with a fun app called Hydra-Detect that is available for both iPhone and Android users. It is free to download and is very simple to use. You follow the prompts on the screen and they will show you your results! I have attached some screen shots down below so that you can see exactly how the app works! You start off by plugging in the cord to access your device's microphone. There are two sensors on the external device and you put them onto your skin and wait for your test results! As you can see from the screen shots, my hands were extremely dry and after applying one layer of cream, my hydration level instantly went up!

Overall
I think that this is a great product and I really enjoyed using it. The formula is exceptional in my opinion and I can honestly say that because I have used a lot of different creams for my face both low-end and also high-end. After using this, I can’t leave my house without wearing my HydraForce moisturizer! Also, this was my first item that I have ever tried out from Lise Watier and now I want to try out others from this brand! It was the perfect introductory product.

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.
