Why You Should Declutter Your Makeup Collection

Hey everyone! Every now and again, we can lose track of exactly how much makeup that we actually own. I am guilty of this as well and the best way to go about this is to put some time aside, pull out ALL (I mean every single item, even makeup in your purse as well as in your car.) You will then want to put it in-front of you and start creating different piles. Makeup that you are going to: keep, donate, recycle or give away to friends and family. I suggest you break it up into different categories based on the type of product so that you don't overwhelm yourself.

Makeup does go bad and I have an entire post explaining Makeup Expiration Dates as well as how to find the open jar symbol on your products. I follow it to a certain extent but I only keep mascara for up to 3 months before I recycle them using the Origins Recycling Program because I do not want any bacteria near my eyes nor do I want an eye infection! Keeping expired makeup in your collection doesn't do you any favours and it just clutters your collection.

It is definitely nice to have a makeup collection but you need to be realistic and there are times when your collection can get out of hand. There is no sense having 100 different lipsticks that were all accumulated around the same time because chances are, you won't be able to use them all up! You can either pass them along or if they are untouched, find a local women's shelter and let them have some fun with those lipsticks!

When you begin to declutter, it can seem like an impossible task at first, and I get it. I suggest that you start small and get rid of 5-10 items to start. You can set small goals and then make larger goals for yourself once you become more comfortable with the process. As long as you start somewhere, that's all that really matters. To give you some encouragement, don't think of how much money each products cost or how much money you are 'throwing away.' After all, the money has already been spent and if you no longer have the receipt to return it, what use is the makeup just sitting in your collection not being used?

I hope you find some encouragement in my post. I also would urge you to declutter other areas of your life such as: your wardrobe, the pantry, your living room, the car, etc. It is such a great feeling of letting go and to pass on to others who will enjoy your unused or gently used items. Spring cleaning is right around the corner and what better time to start clearing out your makeup collection than now?

Also, in the ziploc bag in my photo, I have obviously combined my empty makeup containers with products that I am decluttering.

Until next time,

12 Essential Makeup Must-Haves

Hey everyone! There is a lot of makeup currently on the market and I wanted to share with you 12 items that are needed in your makeup repertoire. Of course, you can always substitute certain items for others and you don't have to use the exact brands that are shown if you don't want to. I just want to show you the types of products that I find myself reaching for most often on a day-to-day basis.

Items Needed:
ELF Makeup Mist & Set
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 15 Fair
COVERGIRL TruBlend Liquid Foundation in L5
MAC Studio CareBlend Pressed Powder in Light
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matte Bronzer in Medium/Deep
ColourPop Super Shock Cheek in Lunch Money
Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Dark Brown
Maybelline Matte Lipstick in #665 in Lust For Blush
COVERGIRL So Lashy! Blast PRO Mascara in Extreme Black
Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler
beauty blender pro Sponge
Boscia Green Tea Blotting Linens

The ELF Makeup Mist & Set can double for a primer as well as a setting spray. The Maybelline lipstick can be used both on the lips as well as on the cheeks for a nice blush colour. You can use the bronzer in your crease and the ColourPop highlighter can be used on the lids to give the illusion of a shimmery eyeshadow. The blotting sheets from Boscia can be used to keep your oils in-check throughout the day and you can just add it into your purse or clutch.

Makeup Products That Are Worth The Splurge

Hey everyone! Currently, there are so many new products that are being launched and makeup items seem to be coming out at a faster rate than ever. I want to share with you some items that I definitely think are worth your money and worth the splurge!

Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Longwear Liquid Foundation - $49
This product was very much talked about when it first launched and this is a full coverage foundation. Yes, it does oxidize and that's why you need to buy 1-2 shades lighter than your actual complexion. My bottle is in the shade 3.0 which is too light for me but it works just fine for me once I step outside. I have found a way to make this work for my oily skin and I really do like it! The gun-metal packaging is beautiful and I love that it comes with a pump. I do have an entire blog post dedicated to this wonderful foundation and I also featured it in my Monthly Favourites video.

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Silky Sensual Radiant  Lipstick SPF 15 - $40
The gold packaging is honestly gorgeous and the shade I have which is #1, is very wearable as it is a great every day colour! The formula is very creamy and not drying on the lips. I like to bring this with me to an event or if I have a special night out planned!

Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayons - $31
These were definitely a splurge for me! I first swatched these in my local Sephora and fell in love with the formula! It glides onto your eyelids effortlessly and it is great to tight-line with! I purchased two shades myself: Blacquer and Jazz(berry). I am glad that they were giving out the mini-pencil last year as part of the birthday gift because now I have one to toss in my purse and travel with!

NARS Blush - $38 & NARS Single Eyeshadow - $31
The blush compact and single eyeshadow pans are very pigmented! A little bit goes a long way and that is why I have yet to hit pan on either one! They offer a great range of shades and I love using Luster in the Summer when I am more tanned! Strada is great for a more dramatic effect or when you want a pop of colour on your eyelids!

MAC Pigment - $26
I got this many years ago and you can tell that I still have a lot of product left! This is a great multi-purpose product that I featured in my 15 Makeup Tips video. Mine is in the shade 'Melon' and it is a great shade that isn't too over-the-top as it is on the more neutral side. This will last me for many more years! You can also purchase the mini-pigments on the MAC web site for only $12.

Simple Everyday Winter Makeup

Hey everyone! I wanted to share with you an easy, go-to look that I have been wearing on most days! It only takes a few minutes and your skin will definitely be looking more luminous if you decide to try this out!

I have been using a hydrating cream that smells like roses that is from Fresh to give my skin the moisture that it has been lacking! It is pretty dry and very cold where I live therefore, I like to add some luminosity to my dull skin in the winter time. I also like to add some colour back into my face with bronzer and blush!

Products:
Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream
Skindinavia The Makeup Finishing Spray (Oil-Control)
Becca Backlight Priming Filter
Maybelline Master Conceal Camouflaging Concealer in #20 Light
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Illumination Full Coverage Anti-Aging Waterproof Concealer in Tan
ELF Pressed Translucent Powder
Pur Minerals Mineral Glow Powder
Sleek Blush in Pomegranate
ColourPop Super Shock Cheek in Wisp
Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara in 01 Extreme Black
Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in 005 Nude
Maybelline Brow Precise Micro Pencil in Deep Brown

To top off the look, I used #930 Truffle Tease Lipstick by Maybelline which is a great nude colour!

MAC x Star Trek Trip the Light Fantastic Powder in Luna Luster | Review & Swatches |

Hey everyone! For Black Friday, I was on The Bay's web site and I came across the Trip the Light Fantastic Powder in the shade Luna Luster from the MAC x Star Trek Collection that was deeply discounted. The limited edition collection originally launched online at the end of August and was available in-stores early September.

Product Size & Packaging
This is Star Trek's 50th Year Anniversary and that is reflected on the outer packaging.

You are getting 0.22 oz of product or 6.5 g.

When you open up the compact, I absolutely love that it is not the traditional black ring around the pan and that they switched it to an eye-catching chrome.

Description & Veining
On the MAC web site, the shade Luna Luster that I purchased is described as a 'sheer wash of soft rose shimmer.'

I am on the light side right now in terms of complexion and this was the lightest shade that I could find in the collection. As the name suggests, this is a sheer formula and it does have some shimmer but rest assured that there are no chunks of glitter. The veining will look a little bit different in every pan but it is honestly so beautiful that I almost don't want to use it for the fear of ruining it!

Swatches

Price Point & Shades
It retailed originally for $39.50 CAD, was marked down to $23.70, I had a $10 gift card on top of the sale price and shipping was free.

There are three shades in total: Luna Luster, Highly Illogical and Strange New Worlds. Highly Illogical is described as a 'sheer wash of golden plum with fine pearl' and Strange New Worlds is a 'sheer wash of golden coral pearl.' All three shades are currently on sale on the MAC web site for $20.40 USD.

Overall Thoughts/Controversy
This is a smooth powder and it blends out easily on the skin. It is definitely buildable. This didn't emphasize any imperfections on my face. I have heard some complaints of Star Trek fans who wanted the packaging to represent Star Trek better and how they wanted more than just the logo on the clear top.

I feel like that MAC made the right decision to keep it simple and if they did a more elaborate design, it could take away from the powder itself.

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer Review & Swatches

Hey everyone! I know that the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer is a cult beauty favourite and that it has been out for quite some time, but I still wanted to write a review on it. I also included some swatches as well as close-up shots.

The Shades/Swatches
I was debating between the two shades Milk Chocolate and Chocolate. I do tan in the summer time and I prefer my bronzer to be more on the dark side in general. That is why I went with the shade best suited for Medium to Deep skin tones. Milk Chocolate is for more Lighter skin tones which I clearly am right now, but that didn't stop me from getting the Chocolate shade! I can just use a lighter hand when I apply it to my face. It also comes in a third shade which is called Dark Chocolate which is suitable for Deep to Tan skin tones.

The Product
This is an all matte bronzer with no shimmer, that actually smells like chocolate! They do use real antioxidant-rich cocoa powder in the formula. It is also very easy to blend out on the skin and does not look orange! If you are wondering, you are getting 10 grams of product or 0.35 oz. If you didn't already know, 'soleil' means sun in French.

The Packaging
It is very beautiful as you can tell from the photos. It is almost an Antique Gold all throughout the packaging that has a simple design embossed on the top. Too Faced name appears in the centre in a cursive font also in gold.

You are also getting a nice sized mirror inside! It opens and closes very easily which I am a big fan of because I really hate fighting to open or close compacts in the early morning when I am getting ready to go to work!

Price Point
It retails for $38 CAD on the Sephora web site and I purchased mine online. Yes, it is on the more expensive side for a bronzer, but I have actually never owned an expensive bronzer in my life. All of my bronzers have been from the drugstore and that is why I thought why not treat myself to one?

Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer vs. Benefit's Hoola Bronzer:
I was debating between this bronzer and the Hoola Bronzer from Benefit, but after doing my research, I went with this one. I prefer the more sturdy packaging from Too Faced, there is a generous sized mirror, this one blends out seamlessly and the one from Benefit can look patchy (according to other reviews that I came across.) Also, who doesn't love a bronzer that smells just like chocolate? The Hoola Bronzer retails for $36 CAD which is $2 less than the Chocolate Soleil Bronzer and there is the option to purchase the travel sized version for only $20 CAD. Both sizes come with a brush but the smaller size has 0.14 oz of product and the full sized version comes with 0.28 oz of product or 8 grams which is 2 grams less than the Chocolate Soleil Bronzer. However, the Hoola Bronzer only comes in 1 shade and the Too Faced Bronzer has 3 shades to choose from. The mirror is also much smaller on the Hoola packaging and the packaging is made out of cardboard. If you are into depotting, the pan inside the Chocolate Soleil Bronzer will be much easier to take out than Benefit's Hoola pan.

Overall Thoughts
I am happy with my purchase and glad that I did my research beforehand! I also encourage you to check out different sources online to help you make a more informed decision before purchasing this product. I do not regret it at all and even though this bronzer is more on the expensive side, it will certainly last me a long time! I look forward to using this bronzer while doing my makeup and I love that it smells just like chocolate!

Sephora Mystery Bag

Hey everyone! These are the items that I received in my Sephora Mystery Bag. Like the name suggests, it is a mystery and I was not able to hand-pick which items that I wanted to receive - they were just sent to me at random. Each person will receive: 6 samples and 1 Sephora Sleeping Mask.

Items In My Mystery Bag:
- Fresh Vitamin Nectar Vibrancy-Boosting Face Mask
- Versace Eros Eau De Toilette (for men)
- The Estee Edit Flash Photo Gloss
- Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara
- Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream
- Aerin Rose Lip Conditioner
- Sephora Rose Sleeping Mask

You can see me going through the items that came in my Sephora Mystery Bag down below!

Everyone did received a Sleeping Mask from the Sephora line. I already own one and have yet to try it! Now I can't wait to try them out because I have two different scents: Rose & Algae.

I am most excited to try-out the: Aerin Rose Lip Conditioner, the Mascara by Estee Lauder and the Clinique Pep-Start Eye Cream.

I was hoping to get a deluxe sample of the Josie Maran Argan Oil or the Prada Candy but, beggars can't be choosers especially when you are getting things sent to you for free.

This promotion is still on-going and you can use the code: TRYME to get your own Mystery Bag if you spend over $35 CAD! It is for online orders only.

Let me know in the comments down below, what you got in your Mystery Bag!

ColourPop Swatches & Haul

Hey everyone! A few days ago, ColourPop was having a sale where for every $20 that you spent, you received a free highlighter. With that being said, I received 3 free highlighters due to the amount that I had spent. That promotion only was happening for 24 hours.

Another promotion that ColourPop is generously offering to their international customers is free shipping over $50 USD (after all discount codes are applied.) Or if your total doesn't meet the threshold, they are offering $4.99 flat rate shipping for their international fans! Currently, they are having a 20% off sale that you should check out on their web site!

I really love the packaging! The colours are beautiful and it was a lovely presentation!

I purchased: 2 Lippie Pencils, 1 Lippie Stix, 4 Ultra Matte Lips (M), 4 Ultra Satin Lips (S) and I received 3 complimentary Super Shock Cheek highlighters that I got to choose on the web site because of the promotion they had at the time. Three of the lip colours came in the set.

'Out & About' Trio

Viper (M), Baracuda (S), Times Square (M)

(Right to Left)
Baracuda (S), Viper (M), Times Square (M), Hutch (S), Are & Be (M), Femme (S), Dopey (S), Beeper (M)

Swatches down below

I didn't include swatches of the highlighters because they didn’t show up well in photos. Only Candy Man did because it is darker in colour.

Dupe for the Flormar Triple Action Mascara

Hey everyone! I found a product that is basically identical to the Flormar Triple Action Mascara!

Price
The dupe is called the Zoom-In Ultimate Mascara by Flower Beauty. I purchased mine on sale at Wal-Mart for only $4.50 CAD. The mascara by Flormar retails for ‎€9.95 which is the equivalent of approximately $14.42 CAD.

Differences
The main differences are that in the dupe by Flower Beauty, it has 0.29 oz of products and the mascara by Flormar only has 0.27 oz of product. You are actually getting more product in the dupe. Also, the mascara by Flormar has Argan Oil and Olive Oil. The Zoom-In Ultimate Mascara contains D-Panthenol to help smooth the lashes and rice wax that 'helps smudge-proof colour.' The cheaper alternative by Flower Beauty comes in five different formulas: Intense Black, Black, Brown-Black, Brown and Waterproof Intense Black. I only found one formula by Flormar when I researched online.

Similarities
They both have rose gold packaging and the shape of the tube is the exact same. The three wand heads are identical and at the top, both mascaras tell you to twist as it is a 3-in-1 product. They also have the exact same little icon. Basically, I can keep telling you the similarities but this is pretty much an identical product.

Opinion(s)
I own the Flower Beauty Zoom-In Ultimate Mascara but I do not own the similar mascara by Flormar. See another blog post I wrote that mentions the mascara by Flower Beauty and you can view more photos there. Overall, I do like this mascara but it is not one of my favourites. It does the job but it is not a holy grail mascara of mine. This is a multi-functional mascara that curls, lengthens and adds volume. I find this to be more of a gimmick but it does get the job done.

I wasn't able to find this exact product on the Flormar web site but if you do a quick Google search, you will be able to find the information you need. I also can't use a photo of the Flormar mascara because I do not have rights to it and I do not own it so that is out of the question.

Sorry for the delay in posting content. My camera that I was using to take my blog photos was on its last leg and I ordered a new camera, but I was having problems with the shipping company. Anyway, it finally got to my house and now I can start posting content again!

The 7 Best ELF Products | All Under $12

Hey everyone! This post is inspired by a photo that I seen on Pinterest where someone was sharing their favourite 14 products by ELF. I decided to keep my favourites to a minimum and only chose to share my top 7 favourite items from ELF with my readers.

1. ELF Makeup Mist & Set - I talk about this all the time and it has been in many of my empties posts. I have gone through over a dozen of these and always have a few on hand at all times. I use this both under and over my makeup to set it in place - as a primer and as a finishing spray. I also apply this after my moisturizer on days that I am not wearing any makeup on my face. It both moisturizes and soothes the skin. Inside there are key ingredients such as: Aloe, Green Tea, Cucumber and Vitamins A, C & E. One bottle retails for $3 USD on their web site and you can even find them in Canadian stores now such as RCSS.

2. ELF Translucent Mattifying Powder - I have only had this powder for a short time but it already one of my favourites and it came at the perfect time! I do not use the sponge that it comes with and I like to apply this powder to my face with a brush. You could use the ELF Kabuki or Complexion Brush. The powder is very soft, silky, lightweight and easy to work with. I do have a very oily face and this helps me stay matte. I do have to reapply throughout the day though and this powder does not make me breakout. This powder does have some shimmer in it but it is not noticeable on me at least. You really can’t go wrong with this powder because it is only $3 USD on the web site and is one of ELF’s ‘Top Rated’ products.

3. ELF Powder Blush Palette in Light - There are 4 beautiful shades in this palette and there is also another version of this palette for deeper skin tones which I am going to purchase for when I am more tanned. It is going for $6 USD on the web site and that means that each pan is only $1.50 which is incredible! You can even mix two of the shades together to get your own custom shade. I love travelling with this palette and it is great to throw into your purse! It has the right amount of pigmentation and the shades are easy to blend out.

4. ELF Precision Sponge Trio - You get 3 different sized makeup sponges that are super soft. The largest size is pretty much the same size as a beauty blender. The smaller sponge reminds me of the beauty blender micro mini and I will be using it predominately for my under-eye area. I wish that they weren’t white because they will get stained and very dirty, but of course, that is something very minor. You are after all getting three sponges for about half of what one beauty blender actually costs. This trio retails for $12 USD on the web site and the breakdown is $4 per sponge.

5. ELF Matte Lip Colour - I have many of the shades and have used up an entire tube of Tea Rose in the past. You really can’t beat the price at $3 USD. The colour range is ever growing and when you see a shade that you like, made sure to purchase it right away on their web site because many of the colours do go out of stock frequently! These colours are pigmented and the three shades that I have been loving at the moment that are pictured above are: Tea Rose (A Light Dusty Pink,) Dash of Pink (A Reddish Pink,) and Wine (A Deep Berry,) that is perfect for fall! They are enriched with Vitamins A, C & E to help moisturize and hydrate the lips. Another plus is that there is a hidden sharper at the end of your pencil in-case you need to use one!

6. ELF Kabuki Face Brush - I have had this brush for many years and it has held up through many washes. It has excellent reviews on the ELF web site and retails for $6 USD. You can use this to apply loose or pressed powder to your face but I like to use it to blend together my: highlighter, blush, bronzer and/or contour. This is a synthetic haired Taklon brush that is very soft and you can use it to apply wet or dry products to the face. You can even use this on your body to buff in product!

7. ELF Complexion Brush - Again, I have had this brush for many years and I have used it numerous times. It is very inexpensive retailing at just $4 USD. This is part of their Studio Line and you can use it to apply powder but I really like using it to apply blush to the apples of my cheeks! It is soft, the perfect length and is very lightweight. This brush does most of the work for you!

Honourable Mentions:
ELF Shadow Lock Eyelid Primer & ELF Lip Exfoliator
Items that I have used up that I no longer have to show you.

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.
