Go-To Lip Scrubs

Hey everyone! My lips get extremely chapped and flaky once the cold weather hits. I have tried numerous lip scrubs on the market and these two have been a stand-out in my books! One is affordable and one is a little bit more expensive but they both get the job done.

Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub - $10.95 CAD for 25 grams or 0.8 oz - I have tried a lot of the different flavours of lip scrubs and I keep going back to this one. I can't seem to ever use up an entire pot of this before it expires as they give you a ton of product! This is a very sweet scent and they use a lot of fresh as well as natural ingredients. There is Organic Jojoba Oil inside which helps to moisturize your lips. The best part of using this scrub is that since it is sugar based, you can lick some of it if you want to! I have an entire dedicated blog post on this wonderful product as well as a post on my Step-By-Step Routine on how I get soft, smooth lips during Fall & Winter.

Tarte Lip Facial Lip Scrub - $21 CAD for 0.10 oz - I have the smaller version which came in the Ready, Set, Glow! Skincare Kit from Tarte that was purchased on the Sephora web site. This is a twist up lip scrub that is hypoallergenic and part of their Rainforest of The Sea Collection. It is perfect to take while travelling or when you are on the go. The packaging is great and it is very easy to use. This has a minty scent to it and you are able to be more precise with this product because it comes in a stick form rather than a pot. They use raw sugar which is a fine gritty texture. They also use shea butter which helps to moisturize and condition your lips.

Let me know what your favourite lip scrub is in the comments down below!

The Benefits of Using Coconut Oil

Hey everyone! I have been using Coconut Oil now for a few years now and wanted to share with you some benefits as well as some interesting uses of this multi-tasking miracle worker!

I usually use my coconut oil in my hair as a hair mask overnight. I comb my hair, liquify the product in my hands by creating friction, and I then apply it to my entire head of hair including my scalp. I also used to use this as a makeup remover and it works quite well!

Benefits:
- High in Natural Saturated Fats
- Increases the Healthy Cholesterol (HDL) in your body
- Help convert bad cholesterol (LDL) into good cholesterol
- Can help lower your risk of getting Heart Disease
- Helps reduce inflammation
- Increases your metabolism
- Can improve digestion and immunity
- It can help curb your appetite
- There are anti-aging properties

Uses:
- Hair (to condition with, help protect against damage, anti-dandruff and to help fight frizz)
- As a makeup remover
- On your cuticles
- In-place of a lotion to moisturize your skin
- Can shave with it
- Soften cracked heels
- As a lip balm
- To cook with

There are many other benefits as well as uses from Coconut Oil that I have not listed here. I strongly encourage you to read up on them because this is truly a wonderful and inexpensive item to have on hand at all times! Also, if you have acne-prone skin, I would not suggest using this product to remove your makeup because it is quite high ranking in at a 4 on the chart. It can end up causing blemishes on your skin and can even clog your pores. However if you have used this in the past and it does work for you in-general, then do what you feel is right for your skin.

Also, be sure to check out this article that lists 101 benefits and uses for coconut oil that you can take advantage of!

How To Get Smooth Lips For Fall & Winter

Hey everyone! Our lips need some extra attention in the colder months due to the drop in temperature. Having dry, chapped and cracked lips is not a pleasant sight which can also be quite painful. I want to share my routine that has been working to avoid having dry and peeling lips.

First, I like to go in with a lip scrub. I have been using the Lip Scrub from LUSH for years and have repurchased it numerous times. My favourite scent is the one in Bubblegum. I recently discovered the Velour Lip Scrub from Jeffree Star Cosmetics in Pumpkin Spice Latte (which is perfect for fall,) and it has 5 more grams of product than the LUSH Lip Scrub. I dip my toothbrush in the lip scrub to get enough product on the bristles and I then scrub my lips with it. This will exfoliate your lips and get all of the dead skin off.

Next, I go in with a damp washcloth with warm water and run it over my lips to get any of the residue off. This brings us to our last step which is to moisturize your lips with your favourite lip balm. My current favourite is the Lip Therapy by Vaseline in the shade Rosy Lips. You can use whichever one that you have on hand but the Vaseline Lip Therapy is what has been working best for me currently.

You will want to exfoliate your lips especially if you go in with a dark matte lipstick or a liquid lipstick (as pictured above,) to ensure that you have an even application of the product.

Of course, you can make your own lip scrub at home if you choose to do so. There are tons of tutorials and step-by-step instructions on the internet that you can find with a quick Google search.

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.

beautyblender pro VS. Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

Hey everyone! There is a lot of talk about makeup sponges in the beauty community and I wanted to compare both a more expensive makeup sponge to a less expensive one to see which one is better all around!

You can see that the beauty blender is slightly smaller than the Real Techniques makeup sponge. That gives you more control and precision when applying your makeup. I would say that the beauty blender is softer and more bouncy when dabbing out your product(s) on your face. I also felt that it gave me an overall more flawless finish after fully blending out all the products. It is also very easy to use and to clean.

The Real Techniques makeup sponge is dual ended and has one more pointed end as well as a more flat side. Due to its size and the fact that it holds more water, I was using more foundation as well as more product in general than when I would use the beauty blender. It also absorbs more water and is harder to clean than its competitor.

The Verdict
My vote for the winner of this showdown is hands down the beauty blender. It is worth the investment because you will most likely get your money's worth out of it and it is just so convenient to use! It has definitely saved me time when applying my makeup and I enjoy using it! Don't get me wrong though, the Real Techniques sponge is a great alternative for someone who is just started out with makeup or someone is on a budget. It can also be for someone who enjoys using the flat side to get in all those corners!

Makeup Sponge Gone Wrong!
I tried the Studio 35 makeup sponge from Walgreens a while ago and it was AWFUL! It was hard even after wetting it and squeezing all the water out. I tried it several times and could not get used to the rock hard texture of it. I ended up throwing it out and that sponge doesn't hold a candle in the wind to these two!

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.
