What's Inside Your Beauty Sponge?

Hey everyone! I was honestly debating whether or not I should do this blog post for quite some time. I decided to still write it because it could potentially help some beauty lovers out there! I cut open my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge after using it for 8-9 months to see exactly what was on the inside.

I have not re-touched the bottom photo because I wanted to give you a closer look of how it actually looks like in natural lighting. You can see that even though I washed it many times, there is still some makeup that seeped into the middle and around the tip of the sponge.

There is a very good reason why it is advised that you should replace your makeup sponge every 1-4 months depending on how you take care of it. I'll admit that I did not wash it after every use, but I did wash it quite frequently.

Here are some other tips on when you should replace your makeup sponge & how to store it:

1. It is deteriorating or has cracks in it and has started to crumble.

2. It has changed colour.

3. It isn't as soft as it used to be and it is hardening.

4. It has become smaller in size aka it has shrunk.

5. You were sick and had a bad cold or a virus.

6. You started to break out and have not switched out your beauty products or skin care products and can't pin-point what is making you break out. It could very well be your old makeup sponge.

7. Do not keep it in a ziplock bag or a makeup bag for longer than you have to because that is a breading ground for bacteria and mould. Keep the holder (if it is a beauty blender,) and store it in the open for it to breathe.

8. Make sure to squeeze out as much of the water as you can after washing or rinsing it.

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.

beautyblender pro VS. Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

Hey everyone! There is a lot of talk about makeup sponges in the beauty community and I wanted to compare both a more expensive makeup sponge to a less expensive one to see which one is better all around!

You can see that the beauty blender is slightly smaller than the Real Techniques makeup sponge. That gives you more control and precision when applying your makeup. I would say that the beauty blender is softer and more bouncy when dabbing out your product(s) on your face. I also felt that it gave me an overall more flawless finish after fully blending out all the products. It is also very easy to use and to clean.

The Real Techniques makeup sponge is dual ended and has one more pointed end as well as a more flat side. Due to its size and the fact that it holds more water, I was using more foundation as well as more product in general than when I would use the beauty blender. It also absorbs more water and is harder to clean than its competitor.

The Verdict
My vote for the winner of this showdown is hands down the beauty blender. It is worth the investment because you will most likely get your money's worth out of it and it is just so convenient to use! It has definitely saved me time when applying my makeup and I enjoy using it! Don't get me wrong though, the Real Techniques sponge is a great alternative for someone who is just started out with makeup or someone is on a budget. It can also be for someone who enjoys using the flat side to get in all those corners!

Makeup Sponge Gone Wrong!
I tried the Studio 35 makeup sponge from Walgreens a while ago and it was AWFUL! It was hard even after wetting it and squeezing all the water out. I tried it several times and could not get used to the rock hard texture of it. I ended up throwing it out and that sponge doesn't hold a candle in the wind to these two!

Until next time,

STAY CLASSY.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge First Impression

Hey everyone! I'm back! Today I will be sharing with you my initial first reaction(s) when using the Real Techniques Sponge. I was hesitant to try another beauty sponge after having a horrible experience with one that I had purchased at the drugstore in the USA from the Studio 35 line. It was rock hard and was very difficult to use in general.

On the other hand, the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is very inexpensive as I purchased mine at Ulta for only $5.99. It has two sides: a pointed side for a more precise application and a flat side.

The sponge gave me a flawless finish and was fairly easy to use. The pointed tip really comes in useful for around the nose, under and around the eyes. I liked using the flat side for: the forehead, cheeks, down the bridge of my nose, my chin and down my neck.

MAKE SURE TO WET THE SPONGE AND THEN SQUEEZE OUT THE EXCESS WATER BEFORE USING IT! I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH!

I have not tried the beauty blender and can't compare this sponge to that one. As far as cleaning goes, the sponge had little staining and cleans well. To clean my sponge, all I use is some baby shampoo by Johnson & Johnson. I felt that the sponge did absorb a lot of product and I had to clean it very thoroughly but it wasn't a problem to do so.

However, I will say that I do adore my makeup brushes and this sponge won't replace them just yet. I do intend on playing around with this sponge some more and maybe in a few months, it will in fact replace my makeup brushes!

Overall, the quality is there and the sponge is definitely worth the money in my opinion! It is soft and makes blending out your foundation easy! It distributes the product evenly over your entire face. This is a great tool for someone who is just starting to get into makeup.

STAY CLASSY.

Thanks for stopping by!
