5 Outdoor Art Installations | Toronto Waterfront

There are five public art installations on Queens Quay that have been selected to be showcased on the Waterfront as part of a contest. These interactive art installations have been designed by international artists and the exhibition runs from Jan. 19 until Feb. 25. I have always loved visiting the Harbourfront because you never know what you'll find! On the ice, there were two swans that blended right in. If you debated making your way down, now is the time!

Root Cabin
Black Bamboo
Winter FanFare
Ensemble
Through The Eyes of The Bear
I have included the pages provided to me at the Harbourfront Centre on the individual art pieces for you to read. There is also more information available online regarding the 5 public art installations in Toronto.

 Until next time,

Evergreen Brick Works OOTD | GTA

I recently attended the Holiday Easy Market held at Evergreen Brick Works. It’s open every Sunday in December until 5 p.m. and entry is free. It’s located on Bayview and the vendors rotate. As for parking, you want to get there early because it fills up very fast.

At the market, my friend purchased two vegan brownies which were decadent! There are various shops that sell fun, unique items. Outside, there is a path that you can follow but we took a detour and climbed up to the lookout. The view is stunning and it overlooks the area.

Distillery District & St.Lawrence Market | Toronto

This past Saturday, I went to St. Lawrence Market. You can find fresh produce, fish, seafood, cheese, meat, baked goods, jewelry, clothing, souvenirs and so much more! There are two levels and there is an outdoor patio with a nice view of the city. I ended up purchasing some delicious baked goods. They use great quality ingredients and I paid just under $12 for six items. If you buy multiple, they offer a discount.

After the market, we walked over to the Distillery District which is about a 20 minute walk. If you are unfamiliar, no cars are allowed inside the area. They have restored the area and you can really notice the Victorian architecture as you walk on the cobblestone road. We decided to eat at El Catrin which had several vegetarian options. The lighting is strung overhead when you walk into the restaurant and the wait wasn’t long for a table. We got seated next to a giant fire and I noticed a few people had blankets that were provided by the restaurant.

Our server came over to our table with a mortar and pestle to mash up the avocados in front of us. They also gave us two sauces and lime wedges which I squeezed into the guacamole. If you want more chips, there is an additional charge. We each got an elote which was very flavourful. My friend ordered the vegetarian tacos and I got the shrimp tacos. They were well-balanced and you get three in an order. We walked around a little more until the sun started to set.

OOTD:

Plaid Carigan - Sabo Skirt
Black Tank Top - Forever 21

Toronto is definitely a unique, multicultural city and if you look closely, you can definitely see the beauty in our eclectic, on-the-go city.

Steam Whistle Tour & Chinatown | Toronto

Hey everyone! I had complimentary passes for the Steam Whistle Tour that I finally put to good use! I will let you know about my experience on the tour and show you a little bit around Chinatown in Toronto!

Our first stop was the Steam Whistle Tour and we only had to wait 20 minutes to go on the next available tour. They gave you a free sample while you waited and you could also purchase a pretzel at the booth inside. There is a variety of nice merchandise that you can purchase including: bottle openers, t-shirts, K-Ways (which are rain jackets,) and much more.

You are also able to purchase pints and cases of beer inside. The staff was very helpful and energetic!

Meet Bev. Bev is short for beverage and she is so big that they actually had to remove the door for her to fit inside. Now she stays here and houses bottles of Steam Whistle. They gave us each a bottle to enjoy at the beginning of the tour and we did an icebreaker telling everyone where we were from as well as our names. My friend and I, were the only two Canadians in the group. Everyone else was American from the east coast, west coast and even from the midwest.

Above are the only 4 ingredients that Steam Whistle uses in their beer which are: pure spring water (from Caledon,) malted barely, hops and yeast (not shown.)

They actually purchased this dispensing machine years ago and it only worked for about two of the products. It no longer works but it is kept there as display.

Here is a sneak peak inside and I highly recommend that you check it out in-person. The tour is $12 a person which is definitely affordable! We also went on the Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend and that means that production was not happening on the Sunday. It worked out well because it was much quieter and we did not have to wear the headphones to hear our tour guy, Michael (who was awesome by the way!)

Steam Whistle gets about 80%-85% of their empties back from The Beer Store and many times, they even get back Heineken bottles because they are green as well as bottles back from other brands.

I took this photo on my iPhone 7 as we were walking to Chinatown and I thought that I would share because there is no filter on it! It is a great shot and I normally don't take photos of the CN Tower because I see it all the time, but this one turned out great!

We were so hungry because the pretzel place inside Steam Whistle closed at 4:45 PM because we went on a Sunday so they close the kitchen 15 minutes before on the final hour that they remain open for. We just missed it by 2 or 3 minutes so we ate at Swatow Restaurant in Chinatown. I found it on Yelp and it got great reviews. It is located on Spadina and is easy to spot due to the large yellow sign. The portions are very large, the food came quickly, the spring rolls were larger than expected but we ordered udon noodles but these looked like chow
mein noodles. Nonetheless, we were famished and just ate our food.

Above is a close-up of my food that had lots of beef pieces and vegetables. I am impressed with this place and would definitely come back! I had leftovers for lunch the next day and even though the inside is small, the turnover is fast. It is also opened late and many people come here was a late night meal.

Our meals gave us the energy we needed and we started walking around browsing the shops. You can find just about anything in Chinatown and they have great deals on all the time.

We were walking down Spadina and my friend mentioned that she had seen this particular store on Instagram before. We definitely had to make our way in and it was a lucky find! If you like unicorns then this is the place for you!

There are really cute cupcake toppers and you can even get one with the 6 God himself aka Drake!

Here is the social media plug for the shop and the cupcake is watermelon flavoured. It tasted very good and just like watermelon! My friend got the unicorn beverage and I got a mocha one which was very good!

Salad King & Sneaky Dee's | Toronto

Hey everyone! As many of you may know, I live in the GTA and there are a plethora of great restaurant as well as places to visit on the regular. I wanted to share with you two awesome spots that I went to a few days ago along with my OOTD.

These photos were taken by my friend in the Church & Gerrard area. I absolutely love graffiti and we had to stop for an impromptu photoshoot.

Our first stop was at Salad King on Yonge St. My friend got a delicious curry dish and I ordered the Islamic Noodles off the secret menu. I did decide to add shrimp to my dish.

Our next stop was to Sneaky Dee's and I have been trying to go there for a few years now without any exaggeration. You need to show your ID to get in if you plan on going in the evening as there is a security guard at the front door. The vibe was awesome and the decor was very different which I loved. We shared the Avocado Spring Rolls which were delicious and my bottle of Grolsch was on special on Sunday for $4.75.

We tried ordering the vegan cupcakes off the menu but apparently Sneaky Dee's hasn't had them in about 2 years and they never got around to taking them off the menu. Just a heads up! We did share the apple pie and you get to choose which flavour of ice cream that you want. Also, just to note: there is no splitting bills and they don't take debit. It is cash or credit and you can't use your visa/debit card that TD offers.

 OOTD:
Black Crop Tank Top - Brandy Melville
Patterned Skirt - Sabo Skirt
Spiked Black Flats - DSW
Black Backpack with Gold Studs - Marshalls
Heart Choker - ASOS

The bathrooms are very cool and there is a ton of graffiti as well as stickers. We also loved The OC poster on the door!

The lighting going up the stairs was honestly perfect and it made for some great photos!
